Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and enhance security controls across our data estate, including analytics platforms and relational databases. This hands‑on role focuses on encryption, key management, access control, and secure data pipelines.

You will collaborate with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams from a remote-first campus. You will report to the Deputy CISO and work 100% remotely from approved states.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or related field, with 2+ years in data protection or database security.
• Proficiency with SQL and ability to assess queries, permissions, and configurations.

Responsibilities

• Implement data protection controls across the data estate, including classification, masking, and de-identification.
• Configure and operate encryption controls for data at rest and in transit; manage keys, secrets, and credentials.
• Enforce least-privilege access models; conduct entitlement reviews and automate remediation.
• Hardening security configurations for cloud data platforms and databases; assess permissions and audit settings.
• Integrate data security into ingestion, transformation, and export workflows; secure service identities and network paths.
• Automate control deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
