Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and improve security controls across the enterprise data estate, including platforms like Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Azure SQL. This hands-on role focuses on encryption, access control, data labeling, and secure data pipelines in a 100% remote environment.

You will collaborate with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams, report to the Deputy CISO, and help ensure compliant data protection

Qualifications

• Degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related field.
• 7+ years in information security, cloud/data engineering, or related field; 2+ years in data protection.
• Strong knowledge of data protection lifecycle, encryption, and key management.
• Experience with Azure identity, networking, storage, governance, and key management services.
• Proficient in SQL and securing enterprise data environments.

Responsibilities

• Implements data protection controls across enterprise data estate.
• Configures encryption controls for data at rest and in transit.
• Implements least-privilege access models with RBAC/ABAC.
• Hardens security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server.
• Embeds security in data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration workflows.
• Automates deployment and compliance validation via scripting and IaC.
