Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to safeguard institutional data across analytics, databases, and pipelines. This hands-on role covers encryption, access controls, data masking, and secure data engineering practices in a 100% remote capacity.

You will collaborate with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, Data Governance, and IT teams, reporting to the Deputy CISO. Remote work is available from approved states and requires reliable internet and a dedicated

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud or data engineering.
• Experience securing data platforms and databases including RBAC/ABAC.
• Strong scripting/automation and collaboration with Security Operations.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain data protection controls across the data estate.
• Configure encryption at rest and in transit; manage keys and vaults.
• Enforce least-privilege access across data platforms and perform entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and export workflows.
• Automate deployment and compliance validation using IaC and platform APIs.
