Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve security controls across the enterprise data estate, including analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, and databases like Azure SQL and SQL Server. This hands-on role covers encryption, access controls, data classification, masking and de-identification.

You will work with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, Data Governance, and IT teams, providing guidance and support

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or related field, including data protection.
• Proficiency with SQL, including assessment of queries, permissions, schemas, and database security configurations.

Responsibilities

• Implement data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including encryption and key management.
• Configure and operate encryption controls for data at rest and in transit; manage keys, secrets, and credentials.
• Enforce least-privilege access models and perform entitlement reviews.
• Hardening security configurations for cloud platforms and data services; assess permissions and audit settings.
• Automate control deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
• Collaborate with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, Data Governance, and IT teams.
