Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement and improve controls across the enterprise data estate, including encryption, access controls, and data protection for platforms like Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL and SQL Server.

You will work with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, Data Governance, and IT teams, delivering automated controls, IaC, and runbooks, while supporting audits and regulatory requirements in a fully remote role.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering or related field
• Experience with data protection lifecycle: classification, encryption, key management, access controls, monitoring and secure disposal
• Proficiency with SQL and secure data practices
• Experience scripting, automation, and IaC to deploy security controls
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms and analytics tools like Microsoft Fabric and Databricks

Responsibilities

• Implements, operates and improves data protection controls across enterprise data estate
• Configures encryption for data at rest and in transit and manages keys/secrets
• Implements least-privilege access models and conducts entitlement reviews
• Hardens security configurations for data platforms and securing data pipelines
• Automates control deployment, evidence collection and compliance validation
• Documents implementation guides, standards and runbooks and supports audits and regulatory reviews
