Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve data protection controls across the enterprise data estate, including analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, and databases like Azure SQL and SQL Server.

You will work remotely from approved states, enforcing encryption, access controls, data labeling, masking and de-identification, and collaborating with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, Data Governance, and IT

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or a related field, including 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• Proficiency with SQL, including assessment of queries, permissions, schemas, and database security configurations.
• Hands-on implementation of classification, labeling, masking, data loss prevention, secure integration, monitoring, and auditing and logging controls.

Responsibilities

• Implements, operates, and improves data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configures encryption controls for data at rest and in transit, including CMK and key rotation.
• Drives least-privilege access models across data platforms, databases, and service identities.
• Embed security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and sharing workflows.
