Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to safeguard institutional data across analytics platforms like Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, and databases such as Azure SQL and SQL Server. This hands-on role focuses on encryption, access controls, and data protection across the enterprise.

You will work with Security Operations, Data & Analytics, and IT teams, reporting to the Deputy CISO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information security or related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain reusable data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Translate data classification, sensitivity, and regulatory requirements into enforceable controls.
• Evaluate coverage, identify gaps, and coordinate remediation with control owners.
• Harden security configurations for cloud platforms and databases such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, SQL Server.
• Automate control deployment, configuration assessment, and compliance validation via scripting/IaC/platform APIs.
• Provide hands-on support and documentation for teams designing or operating data solutions.
