Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to implement, operate, and improve security controls protecting institutional data across the enterprise data estate, including analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, and relational databases like Azure SQL and SQL Server.

This hands-on role focuses on encryption, key management, access controls, data labeling and masking, de-identification, and secure data pipeline engineering.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, database engineering, data engineering, or a related field, including 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• The data protection lifecycle includes classification, encryption, key and secrets management, access and entitlement controls, monitoring, retention, and secure disposal.
• Proficiency with SQL and the security configurations of relational databases.
• Hands-on implementation of labeling, masking, DLP, secure integration, monitoring, and auditing in enterprise data environments.

Responsibilities

• Implement data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configure encryption for data at rest and in transit, manage CMKs and key rotation.
• Enforce least-privilege access across platforms, perform entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for data platforms and supporting integration technologies.
• Automate control deployment and compliance validation using scripting and IaC.
• Provide hands-on technical support to teams designing and deploying data solutions.
