Job summary

Affirm is expanding its Data and Storage Services team to build and operate scalable data infrastructure across OLTP and OLAP systems. You will help design platform capabilities, governance, and self-service tooling, enabling engineers to deploy data applications with reliability at scale.

The role emphasizes on-call readiness, observability, and collaboration with security, infra, and analytics teams to advance AI-native data tooling and semantic layers within a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a cloud analytical data platform (Snowflake/Databricks/BigQuery) with governance and cost control.
• Experience building and operating containerized apps; CI/CD pipelines; production deployment practices.
• Experience building internal platforms and self-service tooling for engineers.
• Experience with REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, secrets management, and managed cloud identity patterns.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for building platform services.
• Strong operational ownership: runbooks, alerts, on-call reliability.
• Interest in semantic layer, AI-ready tooling, and agentic data workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement platform features for data applications at scale, including provisioning, access control, and reliability tooling.
• Build integrations with CI/CD, identity management, external APIs, and event-driven hooks for self-service access.
• Strengthen data access and governance with RBAC, secure views, and cross-database grants.
• Automate toil and create self-service tooling to reduce manual admin work.
• Improve observability with telemetry, alerting, and runbooks for incident response.
• Support platform operations with on-call coverage and maintenance planning.
• Contribute to the platform roadmap: semantic layer infrastructure and AI-native tooling.
• Maintain high standards in code reviews and reliability practices.
