Job summary

Affirm is building a data platform and tooling to empower engineers to store, analyze, and transform data at scale. You will design and operate core platform capabilities, integrate with internal systems, and strengthen governance and observability across OLTP/OLAP workloads.

The role focuses on reliability, self-service capabilities, and a roadmap toward agentic data tooling and semantic layers, with on-call responsibilities and collaboration across security, infra, and product teams.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience operating a cloud analytical data platform (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery or similar).
• Experience with containerized apps, CI/CD pipelines, and production deployment practices.
• Experience building internal platforms or self-service infra to boost developer productivity.
• Familiarity with REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, secrets mgmt, and managed cloud identity patterns.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL for building reliable platform services.
• Strong operational instincts: instrumentation, runbooks, and on-call ownership.
• Interest in semantic layer design, AI-native tooling, and agentic data workflows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across security, infra, and product teams.
• Bachelor-equivalent practical experience or degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Design and operate core platform capabilities enabling teams to build, deploy, and run data apps at scale.
• Build and maintain integrations between the platform and CI/CD, identity, external APIs, and event hooks.
• Implement secure data access patterns, RBAC, masking, and cross‑database grants.
• Automate toil and empower self-service for provisioning, failures, and health signals.
• Improve observability with telemetry, alerts, and runbooks to reduce blast radius.
• Support on-call coverage and platform maintenance across services and apps.
• Contribute to a roadmap for semantic layer infrastructure and AI-ready tooling.
• Maintain high standards in code reviews, reliability, and incident follow-through.
