Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a Supervisory Corrections Officer to plan, coordinate and direct the actions of security staff within a unit of a medium/maximum security facility.

Responsibilities include overseeing security for buildings and public property, performing routine unit checks, ensuring OSHA standards, and assisting with inmate counts, complaints, and disputes among inmates and staff.

Qualifications

• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody, and control of inmates in assigned Unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Make routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assist with all inmates counts for accuracy. Investigates complaints and violations; arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
