Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a security supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct security staff and inmate custody in a medium/maximum security facility. The role includes safeguarding all buildings and public property, performing unit checks, and ensuring OSHA standards are met.

The position requires a high school diploma with relevant experience; a related bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience. SCDC basic training must be completed within eight weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all inmates counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; Arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.
