Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Security Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and lead the security staff across medium/maximum facilities. You will oversee inmate custody, ensure safety, order, and OSHA standards are met, and perform routine unit checks.

Responsibilities include supporting inmate counts, investigating complaints, arbitrating disputes, and ensuring building security. Must complete SCDC Basic Training within eight weeks of hire.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and relevant experience.
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates and directs the actions of the security staff and oversees security, custody and control of Inmates in assigned unit(s) of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.
• Makes routine checks of the unit(s) to ensure subordinate staff are performing their duties properly and safely, and that cleanliness and OSHA standards are maintained.
• Assists with all Inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and violations; Arbitrates disputes among inmate population and correctional staff.

Education

High School Diploma

Bachelor’s degree in related field (substitutes experience)
