Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisory security position to oversee inmate custody and staff performance at the facility. You will conduct inspections, supervise counts, and ensure compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and six years in correctional, security, military, or police work with two years supervisory experience.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for supervisory experience year-for-year.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Oversee subordinate security and custody of inmates.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for security/safety/sanitation compliance.
• Assist in formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearances; prepare evaluations.
• Counsel and recommend disciplinary action.
• Train and develop subordinates to comply with state laws and agency policies.
• Monitor inmate drug testing.
• Oversee contraband, property, maintenance, canteen, commissary, vehicles, grounds, and recreation management.
• Respond to institutional emergencies and rotate for duty warden.
