Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a supervisor to oversee security personnel and inmate control within a unit. You will conduct inspections, provide training, and assist with evaluations and corrective actions.

The role requires certification and completion of basic supervisory training within six months. Candidates must meet SC qualifications and be able to conduct investigations and counts as required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience.
• A degree in criminal justice may substitute for half of required experience.
• Certification from the SCDC Training Academy and completion of the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of the Shift Lieutenant, supervise security personnel and control inmates assigned to the unit.
• Assist with preparation of employee evaluations, corrective actions, and counseling.
• Make unannounced inspections to ensure staff perform duties properly.
• Provide briefings and training for all security personnel in the unit.
• Conduct routine and unplanned inspections of the unit, devices, gates, and ensure safety and OSHA standards.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct.
• Mediate to resolve issues at the lowest level.
• Assist in counts and prepare written reports as needed.
