Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking a unit supervisor who will oversee security personnel and inmate management within the assigned unit. You will conduct inspections, coordinate unit safety, and ensure compliance with OSHA standards.

You will lead trainings, complete investigations of misconduct, prepare evaluations, and document counts and written reports as required. Eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training are mandatory on hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; 18 months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• Bachelor’s degree may substitute for part of the experience.
• Certification by SCDC Training Academy within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Oversee security personnel and inmate management in the unit.
• Assist with employee evaluations, corrective actions, and counseling.
• Perform unannounced inspections to ensure proper duties and safety.
• Brief, train, and mentor security staff assigned to the unit.
• Conduct inspections of the unit, devices, gates; ensure OSHA compliance.
• Investigate alleged misconduct and document findings.
• Mediate to resolve issues at the lowest level.
• Assist in counts and prepare required written reports.
