Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, seeks a Security Supervisor to plan, coordinate, and direct security staff in medium/maximum security facilities. You will oversee security of buildings and public property, and perform routine unit checks to ensure safety and OSHA standards are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, plans, coordinates and directs security staff and oversees inmate custody and control in a medium/maximum security facility.
• Assumes primary responsibility for security of all buildings and public property.
• M akes routine checks to ensure duties are performed properly and OSHA standards are met.
• Assists with all inmate counts for accuracy.
• Investigates complaints and disputes among inmates and staff.
