Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Supervisor to oversee security and custody of inmates, ensuring safety and compliance within the facility. You will lead staff, conduct inspections, and coordinate counts and transfers.

The role requires completing SCDC basic training within six months and meeting minimum education and supervisory experience standards. A strong emphasis is placed on discipline, staff development, and emergency response readiness.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and six (6) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work including two (2) years in supervision.
• A Bachelor’s degree can substitute for two years of supervisory experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry into the position.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security and custody of all inmates.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, sanitation.
• Assist in formal and informal counts.
• Evaluate and counsel security personnel; prepare employee evaluations.
• Counsel and recommend disciplinary actions.
• Train and develop subordinates to meet policy requirements.
• Ensure accuracy of inmate releases/transfers/counts.
• Respond to institutional emergencies.
• Monitor inmate drug testing.
