Job summary

UMass Memorial Health laboratory position seeks individuals to perform and interpret chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment. Fully proficient with equipment and procedures for assigned area, working with considerable independence.

The role emphasizes interpretation of test results, protocol adherence, and participation in equipment maintenance and quality control within a large, respected health system.

Qualifications

• Three years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Follows established protocols to perform various tests, including the most complex, for an assigned area. Provides guidance and consultation to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab. Technicians in the interpretation of complex or unusual test results.
• Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis, and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken.
• Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies.
• Assists in development new test and quality procedures for assigned area.
• Ensures that test results meet requirements of the laboratory quality control program.
• Ensures preventative maintenance for equipment in assigned area. Performs moderately complex troubleshooting, repair, and modification of a wide range of complex equipment and instrumentation.
• May assist in the roll-out of new equipment and equipment modifications.
• Instructs technicians and technologists in the set-up and operation of new equipment and procedures.
• Ensures compliance with all laboratory quality and safety policies.
• Instructs students in clinical laboratory operations and procedures.
• Maintains accurate records of tests performed, using computer-based systems.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology
