Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Staff Controls Software Engineer to develop, configure, test, and commission the control system software for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities. You will lead PLC/DCS programming, SCADA/HMI development, ISA-88 batch control, alarm management, safety logic, historian configuration, and enterprise integration with senior technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, or Systems Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years of controls software, PLC programming, or SCADA development in process industries.
• Hands-on PLC programming with IEC 61131-3 languages on major platforms.
• Hands-on SCADA development on major platforms (Ignition, FactoryTalk, AVEVA, WinCC).
• Experience in ISA-88 batch control and ISA-18.2 alarm management.
• Experience configuring plant historian systems and building dashboards.
• Familiarity with ISA-95 concepts and OT cybersecurity (IEC 62443/NIST).
• Ability to read P&IDs, loop diagrams, I/O lists, and perform CM/review.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PLC/DCS apps using Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson or equivalents.
• Configure SCADA apps and historian data dashboards.
• Design HMI displays following ISA-101/HPHMI principles.
• Implement ISA-88 batch control and ISA-95 enterprise integration with MES/ERP.
• Configure alarm systems per ISA-18.2 and safety logic per IEC 61511.
• Support EMS/LIMS integrations and implement REST API interfaces.
• Lead contractor work, mentor junior engineers, and enforce nuclear QA standards.
• Prepare FAT/SAT/commissioning test plans and engineering docs.
