Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Controls Software Engineer to develop, configure, test, and commission control software for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities in Utah. You will work across PLC/DCS, SCADA, HMI, batch control, alarm management, safety logic, historians, and enterprise integration.

You will collaborate with I&C Hardware, process, and nuclear safety engineers to ensure robust, compliant software delivery and support ongoing plant operations with a safety-first culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer/Systems Engineering or related field.
• ,
• 3–7 years of controls software, PLC programming, or SCADA development experience in process industries.
• Hands-on PLC programming experience with major platforms using IEC 61131-3 languages.
• Hands-on experience developing SCADA applications on major platforms (Ignition/FactoryTalk/AVEVA/WinCC).
• Experience designing HMI displays to ISA-101/HPHMI principles.
• Experience developing ISA-88 batch control sequences.
• Experience configuring alarm management ISA-18.2.
• Experience building historian dashboards and operational data reporting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PLC and DCS programs on major platforms; code in ladder logic, structured text, and sequential function chart.
• Configure SCADA applications; build tag databases, drivers, scripting, and client architecture.
• Design HMI displays for local panels and supervisory level with ISA-101/HPHMI principles.
• Develop ISA-88 batch control, phase logic, recipes, and unit procedures for batch operations.
• Configure alarm management per ISA-18.2 with KPI reporting.
• Program safety logic on SIS platforms per IEC 61511.
• Configure historian systems and build dashboards for process data.
• Implement ISA-95 enterprise-control interfaces with REST APIs and MES/ERP integration.
