Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Staff Controls Software Engineer to lead development, configuration, testing, and commissioning of control software for nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities in Utah.

The role emphasizes senior technical leadership, ISA-88/ISA-95 expertise, safety-critical systems, and collaboration with I&C hardware engineers to deliver high-integrity software across PLC, DCS, SCADA, historian, and enterprise integration domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computer, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 8+ years of controls software, PLC programming, or SCADA development experience in process industries.
• Experience with IEC 61131-3 languages and major PLC platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson).
• Experience developing or maintaining SCADA applications on major platforms (Ignition, FactoryTalk, AVEVA, WinCC).
• Experience establishing HMI design standards to ISA-101/HPHMI.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain PLC and DCS application programs across major platforms.
• Develop and configure SCADA applications with tag databases and scripting.
• Design HMI displays for local and supervisory SCADA levels per ISA-101/HPHMI.
• Develop ISA-88 batch control and supervision layer for batch execution monitoring.
• Configure alarm management per ISA-18.2 and safety logic per IEC 61511.
• Configure plant historian systems and build data dashboards.
• Implement ISA-95 enterprise integration and REST API interfaces.
• Define OT network architecture with IEC 62443/NIST 800-82 controls.
• Prepare software FAT/SAT and maintain documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with I&C hardware teams.
