Job summary

Talent With Heart in Wyoming, MI is seeking a Controls Engineer II to lead the full engineering lifecycle of custom automation projects. You will design electrical panels, program PLCs, integrate robotics, and perform on-site commissioning, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to meet schedules.

The role requires deep technical skills, strong safety knowledge, and the ability to travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent industry experience.
• 5+ years designing, building, and programming custom industrial automation systems.
• Experience with NEC, NFPA 79, and RIA TR R15.06 electrical codes.
• Proficiency with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley platforms; familiarity with other platforms is a plus.
• AutoCAD Electrical competency required; robot integration experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Technical Design & Programming: build machine control software architectures using PLCs and HMI; integrate robotics, vision, VFDs, and servo applications.
• Networking: configure and troubleshoot DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, and Profinet interfaces.
• Electrical design: create electrical panel schematics, layouts, and BOMs with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Robot Programming: develop robot paths and offline programming for floor integration.
• Project Leadership & Execution: develop reusable code libraries and design best practices.
• Specification Review: assess customer specs and ensure hardware and logic meet requirements.
• System Integration & Debug: coordinate power-up, functional validation, and on-site debugging.
• Commissioning & Support: provide on-site startup, training, and handover documentation.
• Safety Assessments: perform risk validations and enforce safe human-machine interfaces.
• Collaboration: mentor junior engineers and work with mechanical, PM, and sales teams.

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline
