Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking a seasoned project leader to direct complex heavy civil projects in California, overseeing budgets, schedules, and a team up to 10 staff. You will collaborate with estimators, project sponsors, and construction managers to drive bid accuracy and project kickoff success.

Ideal candidates bring a decade of progressive project experience in heavy civil, with paving/grading knowledge and familiarity with union and prevailing wage guidelines.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent work experience in heavy civil construction.
• Minimum of ten (10) years progressive project experience in heavy civil environments.
• Minimum of five (5) years experience in paving, dirt, and grading in either private or public environments.
• Experience as a Large Projects Superintendent preferred.
• Experience in Design-build projects preferred.
• Knowledge of union agreements and prevailing wage issues.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate project revenue and cost financial forecasting to ensure profitability.
• Manage a staff of up to 10 full-time employees including hiring, firing, and performance reviews.
• Coordinate with estimators and project controls to establish budget.
• Lead estimating efforts on vertically integrated projects to ensure accurate bid-to-build process.
• Coordinate with estimators, project sponsor, and manager of construction to manage resources to meet schedule.
• Participate in bid review and bid closing to ensure accuracy of bid.
• Provide environment for dynamic project communication among Project Engineers, Foremen, Superintendents and Construction Manager.
• Ensure proper job controls: quantities, costs, revenue and schedule.
• Establish and maintain relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors.
• Run projects at profitability levels to meet or exceed margins.
• Comply with safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
