Job summary

Travelers is seeking an experienced claims professional to manage severe injury and complex liability files from start to resolution. This role requires in-depth knowledge of coverage, liability and damages analysis, with the ability to develop litigation plans and work closely with counsel.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of claim handling, including 5-7 years on serious injury claims, plus excellent negotiation and customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years claim handling experience.
• Advanced knowledge in coverage, liability and damages analysis.
• Excellent negotiation and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage serious injury and complex liability claims.

Responsibilities

• Directly handle assigned severe claims.
• Full damage valuation for typical claims (FDV) in multi-million dollar range.
• Provide quality customer service and ensure file quality, timely coverage analysis and communication with insured.
• Work with Manager on use of Claim Coverage Counsel as needed.
• Directly investigate each claim with stakeholders to determine liability, damages and contribution.
• Interview witnesses and stakeholders; obtain statements as appropriate.
• Complete outside investigations as needed per case specifics.
• Identify and coordinate internal/external resources (Subrogation, Risk Control, nurses, fire/fraud investigators).
• Verify injury or property damage by reviewing records and damages documentation.
• Maintain claim files and document activities per procedures.
• Develop and employ creative resolution strategies.
• Ensure prompt and proper disposition within delegated authority.
• Negotiate dispositions with insureds/claimants or legal representatives.
• Utilize diary management to ensure timely handling and evaluate liability/damages exposure.
• Establish indemnity and expense reserves.
• Provide guidance to underwriting on loss reserves and potential changes.
• Attend roundtables and discuss technical insights to improve payout.
• Share knowledge of creative resolution techniques to improve results.
• Apply company quality management protocols and metrics.
