Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC is seeking a senior systems engineer for a 100% remote role with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The position requires extensive experience in cloud and on-premise systems, strong Linux/Windows skills, and a Public Trust (MBI) clearance.

You will administer large-scale production environments, develop automation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure security, reliability, and performance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in systems engineering or equivalent production environments.
• Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud services and S3/Batch/CloudWatch.
• Strong Linux/Windows administration and scripting in Python Bash or PowerShell.
• Proficiency with automation, IaC, and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, CodeBuild/CodeDeploy).
• Knowledge of security, audits, and compliance for production systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day support for complex cloud systems and production workloads.
• Develop solutions for routine technical problems with scopes of limited size.
• Document issues and resolutions in logging/discrepancy tools; communicate status to stakeholders.
• Maintain and install computing infrastructure; perform on-call production support as needed.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines and IaC tooling; monitor reliability and performance.
• Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure strong security posture.
• Manage assets inventory and ensure VA security standards compliance.
