Job summary

UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement in Evanston, IL, are seeking a Lead Azure Cloud Engineer to advance our enterprise cloud infrastructure strategy. You will be hands-on, lead an MSP-based team, set standards, and drive modernization across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

You'll mentor engineers, define IaC with Terraform and CloudFormation, design CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, and partner with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in cloud engineering, architecture, or related areas.
• Minimum 3 years of experience leading cloud transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Direct an MSP-based technical team, assign work, review deliverables, and ensure SLA compliance.
• Serve as technical escalation point for MSP-delivered services and coordinate with vendor leadership.
• Establish cloud architecture standards, governance, and security practices.
• Design and implement IaC strategies with Terraform and CloudFormation; manage Ansible configurations.
• Build CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions for provisioning, deployment, and testing.
• Create architecture diagrams, docs, and procedures for internal staff and MSP partners.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices.
