Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Manager Claims to lead the Complex Claims Unit (CCU), overseeing high-exposure environmental and latent bodily injury matters. You will coach staff, shape claim strategies, and drive innovative resolutions while delivering exceptional service and strong financial stewardship.

Hybrid or remote work options are available; office presence may be required in Hartford, CT or other locations as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; advanced degree or other professional designation (JD/CPCU/AIC/ARM) a plus.
• Minimum 7 years of casualty claim experience in a property and casualty setting.
• Experience handling environmental, toxic tort, asbestos, latent bodily injury or other complex long-tail claims.

Responsibilities

• Train, coach, and develop staff to meet goals.
• Lead a team handling high-severity environmental and latent bodily injury claims.
• Provide strategic oversight on coverage, liability, damages, allocation, and litigation management.
• Drive innovative claim disposition strategies and timely resolutions.
• Monitor performance, reserving accuracy, and key operational metrics.
• Communicate industry developments and regulatory changes to the team.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Oversee outside counsel, experts, and vendor partnerships.
• Ensure high-quality claim handling and exceptional customer service.
