Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Complex Claims Unit Environmental – Claim Specialist to manage the most sophisticated environmental and long-tail claims against insureds. You’ll influence litigation strategies, analyze coverage, and coordinate with the CCU to resolve high-exposure matters.

Qualifications

• 5+ years general liability claim handling experience with environmental or other latent injury claims or claims under affirmative pollution coverages.
• Experience in handling affirmative/defensive risk transfer; including additional insured tenders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking ability.
• Ability to present in a roundtable setting with a well-reasoned and analytical evaluation.
• Superior customer service skills and active listening skills.
• Proven track record of prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities.
• Proven track record of effective negotiations/settlement of high-value general liability claims.
• Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Active Property & Casualty State Insurance Adjuster license or ability to obtain licensing within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Manage the most complex, high-value environmental and pollution claims within CCU.
• Provide proactive communications to customers and business partners during claim resolution.
• Review complex policies and coverage parts to write clear coverage positions.
• Investigate claims and coordinate litigation strategy and budgeting.
• Lead negotiations and position claims for favorable settlement outcomes.
• Support leadership with detailed coverage, liability and damage assessments.
