Job summary

HDR in the United States seeks a Major Bridge Technical Director to lead HDR’s Bridges and Structures program within the Transportation Business Group. You’ll provide strategic and hands-on technical leadership across large, multi-disciplinary bridge projects, guiding design, production, QA/QC, and staff development.

The role requires 20+ years of bridge experience, PE license (SE preferred), and a track record in long-span/cable-stayed projects, plus strong client development and mentoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in structural engineering and licensure as a professional engineer (PE) with SE preferred.
• 20+ years of bridge project and client management experience.
• Experience delivering long-span bridges (e.g., cable-stayed, suspension) and complex projects.
• Proven leadership and mentoring of multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience with design-build or other alternative delivery methods.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and hands-on technical leadership for HDR’s Major Bridge portfolio.
• Oversee project staffing, QA/QC, and design production across large bridge projects.
• Lead cross-team coordination and client engagement for major pursuits.
• Mentor junior engineers and develop staff via training initiatives.
• Drive technical excellence and ensure compliance with industry standards.
