Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Leader in the Bridges and Structures program to champion the major bridges portfolio. You will provide technical direction across all design activities, staff major projects, and mentor junior engineers, while shaping client relationships and pursuing new business opportunities.

Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of bridge design, PE/P.Eng, and experience with cable-stayed or long-span schemes, plus proficiency with industry software. Travel across North America is expected.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in structural engineering.
• Professional Engineer license (PE/P.Eng) with SE preferred; reciprocal licensure via NCEES.
• 10+ years of bridge design experience.
• Experience leading design teams for long-span bridges (cable-stayed, suspension, etc.).
• Experience with alternative delivery (Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, P3).
• Proven technical leadership on major bridge projects.
• Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
• Willing to travel to multiple US locations and abroad as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, directing, and monitoring large, multi-disciplinary bridge projects.
• Provide proactive technical oversight and cross-team coordination.
• Deliver technical leadership for bridge design and production.
• Perform complex structural analysis and design for long-span bridges.
• Cultivate client relationships and support marketing and proposals.
• Coordinate site work sessions with managers, engineers, and disciplines.
• Ensure deliverables meet HDR standards and project requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and supervise staff across locations.
• Oversee QA/QC procedures and design reviews.
• Drive training programs and staff development.
• Support business development and major bridge pursuits.
• Represent HDR in industry forums and conferences.
