Job summary

HDR seeks a Senior Bridge Technical Director to lead HDR’s major bridge program within the Transportation Business Group. The role combines strategic technical leadership with hands-on design oversight, staff development, and client engagement across national projects.

You will guide design teams, drive QA/QC, and contribute to marketing and project delivery, with travel across North America as needed.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Structural Engineering.
• PE or P.Eng (and SE highly preferred) license with ability to reciprocity.
• 20+ years of bridge project and client management experience.
• Experience as EOR or lead of a design team delivering final design of cable-stayed bridge with main span ~900 ft or greater.
• Experience in delivering Design Build / Progressive Design Build / P3 projects.
• Strong background in technical leadership on major bridge projects.
• Experience guiding teams in multiple locations and building cohesive culture.
• Familiarity with industry-standard bridge software platforms.

Responsibilities

• Champion leadership in planning, directing, and monitoring large, complex bridge projects.
• Provide proactive technical oversight and cross-team coordination.
• Deliver technical leadership for bridge design and production with design teams.
• Perform complex planning, analysis and design for long-span bridges.
• Cultivate client relationships and support marketing and production initiatives.
• Lead design sessions at project sites with Project Managers and disciplines.
• Ensure deliverables meet all standards and HDR requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and supervise technical staff.
• Support proposal generation and partnerships for major bridge pursuits.
• Oversee QA/QC procedures and comprehensive reviews of bridge plans.
