SOLV Energy, Inc. is seeking a Senior BESS Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of battery energy storage projects. You will provide technical direction, oversee engineering teams, and ensure compliance with contracts and utilities.

This fully remote role involves collaboration with internal teams, vendors, and clients to deliver high-quality BESS solutions. The role requires 5+ years in electrical engineering with BESS or renewables, strong knowledge of BESS components,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
• 5+ years of electrical engineering experience with focus on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems; including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection equipment.
• Expert knowledge of BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD, etc.) and simulation tools.
• Technical subject matter expert of applicable codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, utility standards).
• Extensive experience with grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC Order 841, IEEE 1547).
• Strong understanding of fire protection requirements (UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA855).
• Thorough knowledge of communication protocols used in SCADA and Energy Management Systems (IEC 61850).
• Project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, and risk managment.
• Knowledge of EPC engineering workflows, including design deliverables, submittals, document control, and coordination with engineering partners
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and resources.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, adapt to dynamic project requirements, and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical SME for BESS engineering scopes, providing guidance to project teams.
• Lead and manage the design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and sizing analyses to recommend optimal BESS configurations.
• Serve as a senior technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV scopes on projects.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners to ensure timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and docs for BESS components.
• Provide engineering oversight during procurement including vendor reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance.
• Provide engineering support during construction, testing, commissioning and energization.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence.
• Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Support business development through proposals and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in meetings with customers.
• Travel as required to support project execution.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
