Job summary

The Virginia Department of Social Services seeks a Benefit Programs Specialist III to perform advanced eligibility determinations for SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF, using established guidelines. You will work independently on complex cases while coordinating with supervisors on the most challenging scenarios.

Responsibilities include monitoring program efficacy, preparing reports, and serving as a resource to staff and the public on eligibility requirements, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience as a Benefit Programs Specialist in Virginia with increasing responsibilities.
• Willing and able to work an emergency shelter during disasters.
• High school diploma with related work experience in benefit programs.

Responsibilities

• Monitor efficacy, trends of programs, and complete seasonal, quarterly and yearly reports.
• Review cases for correctness and identify errors or problems in caseloads; determine sources of error.
• Explain programs, rights and responsibilities to applicants and recipients; conduct follow-up as needed.
• Maintain records, prepare reports, and submit summaries and information as required.
