Job summary

Affirm is looking for a Backend Engineering Lead for the Batch Infra team. You will own quarterly goals, guide engineers through ambiguity, and ensure delivery with high reliability.

You will work with product, design and analytics to articulate constraints, trade-offs, and risks, while driving quality and ownership in code and architecture. You will champion scalable backend systems using AWS, Kubernetes and orchestration frameworks like Airflow or Temporal, while mentoring talent and shaping

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Track record of highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Workflow Orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, Luigi, etc.
• Experience with scaling frameworks like Spark/Flink for large datasets on Kubernetes.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature with elegant, extensible design.
• Proven ability to make significant changes in a large codebase safely.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team; lead engineers through ambiguity to solutions.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to align on technical constraints and trade-offs.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, or technology issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts; monitor metrics and participate in on-call activities.
• Set and improve code review and design standards; advocate these beyond the team.
