Job summary

Affirm is seeking an experienced backend engineer to own and deliver quarterly goals for a high-availability compute platform powering batch workloads. You will collaborate with product, design and analytics to balance technical constraints with market needs, and lead initiatives across the team.

You will help scale and optimize distributed systems using Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes, and drive quality through code reviews and robust design decisions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience with workflow orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, Luigi).
• Experience scaling Spark/Flink on Kubernetes for large datasets.
• Proven ability to define a technical plan for significant features with extensible design.
• Strong code ownership and ability to contribute safely in a large code base.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, and lead engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics to align on risks and trade-offs.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts with metrics and on-call duties.
• Set and promote code review and design standards across the team.
