Job summary

Affirm is hiring for a backend engineering leader to own quarterly goals and guide a team through ambiguity. You will partner with product, design, and analytics to balance constraints, risks, and trade-offs while ensuring reliable, scalable backend systems.

Preferred candidates have 4+ years building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes, plus experience with Airflow, Flyte or similar orchestration tools. This remote-first role may include occasional office work.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems on AWS and Kubernetes
• Proficient in building and managing Workflow Orchestration frameworks
• Experience scaling Spark/Flink on Kubernetes

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly goals and lead engineers through ambiguity
• Collaborate with product/design/analytics through ideation and trade-offs
• Identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues
• Support operations and on-call efforts to maintain availability
• Set and improve code review and design standards
