Job summary

Affirm is seeking a backend engineering leader to own quarterly goals and guide a team delivering scalable compute solutions for batch workloads. You will collaborate with product management, design and analytics, articulate constraints, and balance risks and trade-offs to ensure reliable delivery.

You will help foster quality and ownership in engineering, drive improvements in code standards, and mentor teammates while supporting on-call and operations.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Experience with highly available distributed systems (AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes).
• Experience building/work with Workflow Orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, Luigi).
• Experience scaling frameworks like Spark/Flink on Kubernetes for large datasets.
• Proven ability to define technical plans and deliver features with elegant design.
• Strong code ownership, tooling, and safe large-codebase changes.
• Proactive in seeking feedback and growing.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with global team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
