Coinbase, Inc. is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to own design across the FCM core, from market data through settlement and risk, as we lead a major replatforming to a next-gen architecture.

This role combines hands-on development with strategic influence and cross‑functional collaboration. You will work in a remote-first environment with quarterly in-person surges, applying deep backend expertise in a regulated trading context to deliver auditable, reliable systems and drive impactful

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in production-grade distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with ownership of parts of the futures lifecycle.
• Deep proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred) and event-driven architectures.
• Experience in a regulated or financial environment where correctness and auditability matter.
• Track record delivering end-to-end architecture, replatforming, and hands-on coding.
• Utilizes AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from data to settlement and risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming and reduce legacy dependencies while improving stability.
• Set the technical bar through code and design reviews and address critical debt.
• Partner with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers and elevate code quality and architectural rigor.
