Coinbase is building the future of regulated derivatives as part of the Institutional Everything Exchange. As a Staff Software Engineer on the FCM team, you’ll be a hands-on technical anchor across the entire FCM lifecycle—from market data and order routing to settlement, reporting, and risk.

You’ll help lead a major replatforming onto next‑gen architecture, reduce legacy vendor dependencies, and raise stability and reliability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in production-grade distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with parts of the futures lifecycle.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
• Experience in a regulated or financial environment emphasizing correctness and auditability.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core, from market data to settlement and risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming and reduce legacy vendor dependencies while boosting stability.
• Set the technical bar through code reviews, design standards, and debt reduction.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance, and Compliance to turn strategy into a roadmap.
• Mentor engineers to improve code quality and architectural rigor.
