Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the FCM team to own the end-to-end FCM core, from market data to settlement.

You will help lead a major replatforming initiative, reduce legacy dependencies, and uphold high standards for code quality and reliability across the organization. You will collaborate with Product, Risk, Ops, Finance and Compliance to translate strategy into a concrete roadmap, while mentoring engineers and delivering auditable, scalable systems in a regulated

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience with ownership of complex distributed systems.
• Direct FCM or derivatives experience with ownership of futures lifecycle components.
• Proficiency in a modern backend language (Go preferred; Java or similar).
• Experience in regulated financial environments (CFTC/NFA) ensuring correctness and auditability.
• Track record delivering end-to-end projects including replatforming or migrations while coding on the side.
• Experience using AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Own design and architecture across the FCM core from data to settlement and risk.
• Drive the next-gen replatforming and reduce legacy dependencies.
• Set the technical bar through reviews and standards, addressing critical debt.
• Collaborate with pods across Product, Risk, Ops, Finance and Compliance to deliver auditable systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise code quality and architectural rigor.
