Affirm is hiring a Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform to shape backend systems powering orders, captures and refunds post-checkout. You will set technical direction for a senior team, mentor engineers, and drive initiatives that improve reliability and performance at scale.

Your role requires deep experience with Python or Kotlin, distributed systems, and cloud tech, plus strong collaboration with product and design across a remote-first, US-based team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend experience at scale.
• Experience with payments or fintech domains.
• Proven ability to design reliable services with clear API boundaries.
• Strong collaboration with product, design and analytics.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate across product management, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risks are understood.
• Define and advocate technical solutions and operational processes for the team.
• Own operations and availability with monitoring, playbooks and on-call readiness.
• Mentor engineers, lead by example, and drive code reviews and design standards.
