Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly for consumers and merchants. The Staff Software Engineer on the Order Platform team will shape orders, captures, refunds, and settlement post-checkout, driving technical strategy for reliable, scalable commerce transactions.

You will join a small, senior team focused on the post-checkout domain, set direction, mentor engineers, and own decisions with long-term impact across the company’s financial platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, Spark, Kubernetes.
• Strong API design, reliability, consistency and error handling in payments/finance domains.
• Ability to deliver features and deprecate legacy functionality with execution plans.
• Comfort with ambiguity and evolving architectural decisions.
• Proven ability to gather feedback from multi-functional peers to drive impact.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability and manage risk.
• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own your team’s operations, monitoring, on-call readiness and incident response.
