Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Software Engineer to design and build a reliability platform for production systems, blending distributed systems with AI-assisted development. You’ll own quarterly goals, lead engineers, and help teams understand, debug, and improve the health of services.

You will collaborate across product, design and analytics, drive high-quality code, use Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes, and ship web apps with React or Vue. This remote-first role offers equity and health benefits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale (Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes).
• Experience shipping web apps with declarative UI frameworks (React or Vue).
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivery of a major feature or system component.
• Experience making large-scale changes safely with tooling and practices.
• Demonstrated ownership of growth through feedback from team and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with a global team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve problems.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics to ideate, articulate constraints, and decide on risks and trade-offs.
• Identify and advocate for project, process, technology, or business issues and lead in solving them.
• Support operations and availability of team artifacts; monitor metrics and provide on-call support.
• Help establish code review and design standards, and promote them beyond the team via writing and talks.
• Develop talent on the team by giving feedback and mentoring others.
