Job summary

Affirm invites a Software Engineer to design and build a next-generation reliability platform for production systems. You’ll blend distributed systems engineering with AI-assisted development to give teams a single place to understand, debug, and improve health of services.

This role emphasizes fast iteration, reliability, and high-quality code. You will own quarterly team goals, collaborate across product, design and analytics, and drive initiatives that improve delivery and on-call readiness

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps with React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks to enhance automation with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering major features with elegant, extensible design.
• Experience making significant changes in large code bases safely.
• Proactive growth mindset and seeking feedback from teammates and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with a global team.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and guide engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics across ideation and constraints.
• Proactively identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics and on-call efforts.
• Set and improve code review and design standards to promote quality and ownership.
• Mentor teammates and lead by example in development and delivery.
