Job summary

CSPNJ is seeking Seasonal Warming Center Mentor(s) in New Jersey to support an overnight shelter for the unhoused from November through March. Mentors ensure safety and emotional well-being, assist with intake, distribute supplies, and connect guests with community resources.

Two part-time night shifts are available (5:00pm–12:00am and 12:00am–7:00am), up to 29 hours weekly, with hourly pay of $20 and holiday differential pay.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years working with homeless populations.
• Ability to engage diverse individuals with empathy.
• Willingness to share personal recovery experience as appropriate.
• Bi-lingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and foster a welcoming environment.
• Model professionalism, reliability, and effective communication.
• Provide education, guidance, and supportive interactions.
• Maintain center cleanliness and escalate safety concerns.
• Respond to behavioral health crises with de-escalation techniques.
• Follow staffing schedules to ensure coverage.
