Job summary

Collaborative Support Programs of NJ Inc. (CSPNJ) seeks Seasonal Warming Center Mentors for the winter shelter program in New Jersey. Mentors ensure guest safety and emotional well-being, support intake, distribute supplies, and connect guests with services during overnight shelter operations.

The roles are part-time (up to 29 hours/week) with two shifts: 5:00pm–12:00am and 12:00am–7:00am. Compensation is $20 per hour, with holiday differential pay available and no benefits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years of working with the homeless population.
• Ability to build and maintain positive, supportive relationships with individuals who need mental health or substance use services.
• Willingness to share personal recovery experience when appropriate.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
• Lived experience in mental health/substance use issues prioritized by CSPNJ.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests warmly and create a welcoming, respectful environment.
• Support nightly intake, distribute supplies, and maintain facility cleanliness.
• Connect guests with critical community resources.
• Respond to safety concerns and crises with de-escalation when needed.
• Adhere to staffing schedules to ensure safe coverage and program delivery.
