Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a Custodian to perform routine cleaning and maintenance of school buildings and grounds. Training will cover cleaning tools, equipment, safety and personal protection to perform duties.

Responsibilities include cleaning cafeterias/classrooms, emptying trash, mopping, setting up for events, locking doors, and ensuring a safe, orderly environment. Requires GED or high school, basic English, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and regular attendance.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
• Basic ability to read and speak/understand English.

Responsibilities

• Clean cafeteria, classrooms, bathrooms and walls; mop floors and dust rooms.
• Pick up trash, wash desks, set up for events and meetings.
• Secure classrooms and buildings at end of day.
• Perform related cleaning and maintenance tasks as required.
