Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a Custodian to perform routine custodial work in maintaining the cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding grounds. The role includes training in cleaning tools, equipment, and safety procedures to perform custodial tasks effectively.

Essential duties include cleaning cafeterias, classrooms, and common areas, assisting with event setups, lifting up to 50 pounds, and adhering to established schedules.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.

Responsibilities

• Clean cafeteria after lunch, mop and arrange tables.
• Pick up trash in bathrooms, hallways, and around the grounds.
• Clean classrooms, dust rooms, and prepare spaces for the next day.
• Move desks and tables as needed between areas and floors.
• Set up for events in cafeteria, auditorium, library, and other spaces.
• Vacuum, mop, wash walls, and clean windows as required.
• Ensure security by locking classrooms and exterior doors after close.
