Job summary
Summit School Services seeks an on-site Bus Assistant to help students board and exit buses safely and to support daily school transportation operations. You will model professionalism, participate in safety trainings, and report any safety concerns promptly.
The role emphasizes strong communication, patience with students, and teamwork with drivers and school staff to uphold safety policies and quality service.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old (19 for NY)
- Must meet physical and medical requirements
- Must complete and pass training and attend safety meetings
- Dexterity to use restraints and secure wheelchairs
- Ability to relate to and work well with children
- Ability to manage pupil behavior effectively
- High level of professionalism and diplomacy with students, staff and parents
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift and assist students when necessary
Responsibilities
- Assist students with entering or exiting the bus safely
- Seat students using belts, car seats or restraints
- Monitor student conduct and report concerns to supervisor
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and integrity
- Assist driver and keep interior clean
- Complete required paperwork promptly
- Attend training and safety meetings
- Other duties as assigned
